"Everyday, Everybody, Responsible & Successful."

The Olds Junior High School staff strives to provide an environment that allows for positive communication among teachers, parents, and students. We strive to work with parents to educate all students, as parents and family are a child’s first and most important teachers.

Junior high is a time of great growth and fun. We recognize the importance of student success, and as they work to the best of their ability, we provide opportunities they need to prepare for high school.

We have an open-door policy at Olds. Please come see us any time. We are here to help!

Principal's Message

Dear Parents,
Every year the state tests all students in grades 3-8 and grade 10 to make sure their learning is on track. The results from this testing are important to us all.

State Testing: Beginning this school year, the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) will be replaced by two new tests: the Measurements of Student Progress (MSP). In addition, we will be piloting the on-line version of the MSP at Robert L. Olds Junior High in reading and math. The new tests were named to convey their specific goals. The MSP measures student progress. While the MSP results are important, state testing should never be the sole judge of a student's academic skills and knowledge. A student's entire academic performance should always be considered. Some changes that your student will notice are that the reading and math tests will be taken on line, the tests will be shorter than prior years with no "extended response" questions, and there will be a couple of new items where students will be required to fill in the "missing item". For an example of the new test, you may take an on line tour at http://wa-online.caltesting.org/tutorials/index.html. Please take a few minutes to visit this site with your student and discuss the new on line test with them.

As a school, we will be spending time familiarizing your student with the new tests and doing everything we can to ensure they are successful in taking them!

Spring Conferences: We have read and listened to the feedback we received regarding Fall Conferences and have made some changes to the plan for Spring Conferences to meet you and your student's needs. We will be asking ALL students to conference here on campus in the OJH Gym. As a parent, you will be offered the choice of your student leading you through a student led conference, or conferencing with your student's teacher(s) in a traditional format. Besides the "arena style" conference in the gym, we will have a couple of more private rooms set up for conferences if you desire to use one.
