What is the Early Childhood Center?
The Early Childhood Center in North Franklin School District is a two-part program designed for developmentally delayed children ages 0-5. Any parent living in the district who is concerned about their child’s development can contact the center for more information.
How does a child qualify to attend the Early Childhood Center?

Once a child is referred to the center, staff will evaluate the child in the following areas:

  • cognitive
  • speech/communication
  • self help/adaptive
  • fine and gross motor skills
  • social skills

Those who are determined to be developmentally delayed will be placed in the program appropriate to their age.

What programs are part of the Early Childhood Center?

Qualifying children ages 0-3 are part of a natural environment program, where teachers work with the students in their own homes.

Once children turn three, they are re-evaluated and if they qualify, are placed in the preschool program. In this program, they attend school for three hours, four days per week. The preschool children work to develop cognitive, speech, communication, adaptive, motor, and social skills.

Upon finishing preschool, children are again evaluated and their needs for elementary school are addressed individually.

How does the Early Childhood Center measure success?

The success of children in the Early Childhood Center depends on a team effort. The students are cared for and taught by a team that includes their parents, teachers, speech language pathologist, and physical therapist. This team can address all individual needs of students to ensure they are properly prepared for success in elementary school.
